What is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®?

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 logo

Companies may be using harsh chemicals, toxic dyes and contaminated materials to make clothes and beddings. As a consumer, how can you ensure that your purchases are free of harmful substances? Independent certification like STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® helps to give us confidence that the textiles we buy are safe for our bodies.

OEKO-TEX® is a group of 18 independent research and test institutes in Europe and Japan. It offers textile and leather companies various certificates and services to verify the safety of products and production processes for health and the environment. Through the certification process, they take into account the numerous regulated and non-regulated substances which may be harmful to human health.

More specifically, STANDARD 100 certification requires products to be proven safe from over 100 chemicals, and comply with worldwide legal regulations (such as banned azo dyes, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, pesticides, cadmium, and nickel). There are also strict criteria in place to ensure that manufacturers remain consistent in their safety practices - it must be updated annually and the certification has to be conducted by independent third party laboratories.

With this certification, you can be certain that every component, i.e. every thread and other accessories, has been tested for harmful substances and that the item therefore is harmless for human health.
